Mentor Roles and Responsibilities
The role of a mentor is an important one and we would like to facilitate a successful relationship between you and your mentee. Therefore, we have the following expectations of you as a participant in the on-line mentoring program. Thank you!
Mentoring Roles:
- Coach
- Counselor
- Advisor
- Motivator
Mentoring Responsibilities:
- Encourage your mentee to move forward toward his/her own goals, not yours
- Encourage communication from your mentee
- Provide insights and information on career goals
- Maintain a professional role in the mentoring connection
- Respect the confidence of your mentee
- Be willing to share the knowledge and experience you have gained during your career
- Empower the mentee to increase his/her understanding and ability to handle problems on his or her own
- Active listening
- Provide clear, non-judgmental descriptions of what you observe the mentee doing or intending to do
- Helping the mentee explore options
- Make contact on-line with your mentee at least once a week
- Keep the Mentoring Program aware of any change of status
Getting Started: Mentors
Registration: Register online by following the link below. Check the "Professional Network" as your requested service. Your registration will be reviewed within one business day, and you will receive access to the Professional Network component of KnightLink. We'll notify you, via email, of your Login ID and Password.

Creating Your Profile: Follow these step-by-step instructions to create a "Mentor Profile", which will allow students to search for possible mentors in the database:
1. Log on to the Career Services and Experiential Learning's main webpage at: www.CSEL.ucf.edu. Select Career Services.
2. Click on KnightLink Login and input your Login ID and Password.
3. Click the "Professional Network Profile" link to input your profile information into the
database.
